AGARTALA, September 10 (TIWN): A programme on GRIHA and Green Buildings was organized by DSTE, government of Tripura and TERI, New Delhi at Pragna Bhawan here this morning.
Speaking in the Programme Minister for Science and Technology Bijita Nath said that GRIHA is a national rating system for Green Buildings in India. Conceived by TERI and developed jointly by the ministry of new and renewable energy, government of India, it is based on nationally accepted energy and environmental principles. Over 300 projects across India of varying scale and function are being built based on GRIHA guidelines, she added.
She further said that while Green buildings may cost a little more to design and construct, it is more economical to operate green buildings. In addition to the immense environmental benefits that these buildings have, they are also a better place for occupants to live and work in, she mentioned.
Senior Advisor, Sustainable Habitat, TREI and former Additional Director General, CPWD R.S. Prasad, Engineer-in-chief, PWD S. Bhaumik, Chief Secretary G. Kameswara Rao and Secretary of science and technology department S. Kumar was present in the programme.
