AGARTALA, September 8 (TIWN): The Public Works Department (PWD) is contemplating to develop the National Highway 44 as a part of the preparation of the impending NFR mega block slated to commence from October 01 this year.
A highly placed source in the state government today said that the BRO and PWD authorities are expecting to start joint repair work of the National Highway in Agartala-Sabroom and Agartala-Churaibari segments before Durga Puja. “We are currently doing monsoon repair work including filling up potholes and other minor repair. Major work including straightening of the roads wherever possible would be initiated later”, the source said. Asked about the issue, Engineer-in-Chief of the Department S Bhowmik said that the Department was asked to develop the National Highway to prepare before the impending mega block. Repair would be done in the Atharomura-Longtraivalley segment as well. On a different context, the official said that the state government recently developed the Chowmanu-Gobindabari road in Dhalai district. The entire road length of 38 Km would be developed out of which work on 17 Km road length was already complete. The road was developed using funds of the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and the North Eastern Council (NEC).
