AGARTALA, May 20 (TIWN): With the ongoing trend of everyday increasing fuel prices, on Saturday the petrol price was recorded at Rs. 72 per litre here in Tripura, whereas at Delhi petrol price is Rs. 76.24.
In Agartala everyday the petrol price is hiking and the prices climbed to new multi-year highs in other major metro cities too -- Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai -- at Rs 78.91, Rs 84.07 and Rs 79.13 per litre respectively.
The consumers alleged, before one year the price was only Rs. 45 which sometimes went to Rs. 48 but in one year, extreme hikes have become a matter of concern.
Issuing the price hike, opposition CPI-M has protested here in Tripura on May-8, alleging 'Hike in fuel means hike of each commodity'.
This spiral in prices of transport fuels comes amid continuous gains in crude oil prices globally. The brent crude oil is currently priced around $78 per barrel.
It averaged $47.56 and $56.43 per barrel respectively during the last two financial years.
During a telephonic interaction between Indian media and Saudi Arabian Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan raised concern over the surge in crude oil prices.
