AGARTALA / SONAMURA, May 6 (TIWN): Police and BSF’s joint raid has successfully exposed once again the narcotic business trend of Sonamura based smugglers. In the border areas almost all the people residing at there are engaged in such activities, but in the last 25 years of the Communist regime, instead of curbing such trends, the Sonamura border rather turned a ‘heaven’ for free business and after first time visit in such areas, Sonamura will be felt not less than a Mini-Pak. With today's raid, it was unearthed that "Yaba" tablets are entering via Sonamura in Northeast state Tripura and is being distributed across the country. Talking to OC Sonamura Police Station Srikanata Chakraborty said, “We had been informed via secret sources about the illegal storage of drugs in Jasim Mia’s house. Police along with BSF have raided the house and recovered drugs including huge numbers of ‘Yaba’ tabletsâ€.
“12400 yaba tablets were recovered from his house along with other kinds of drugs. The market price of the tablets will be at least Rs. 50 lakhs, but Jasim Mia managed to escape from the spot before police had reached at there”, Srikanta Chakraborty said.
The joint drive was launched by BSF 145 Bn of Srimanatapur border led by Commandant Santosh Kumar and Sonamura Police led by OC Srikanta Chakraborty.
A case has been filed by Sonamura Police against Jasim Mia according to under NDPS act.
The house of Jasim Mia is very close to border, said Police.
