AGARTALA, September 3 (TIWN): State Government formed a committee to finalize fare of auto rickshaws. Recently the committee inspected the distance measures of various roads to finalize the fare.
On Wednesday Transport Minister Manik Dey told in the Assembly that as per the instructions from the High Court a committee is formed to deal with the matter of auto rickshaw fare. The committee consists of the officials from Traffic Department, Police Department, Transport Department and PWD Department.
The committee is measuring the road maps now. In the meantime State Government adopted some steps against the auto drivers who charge high fare from the passengers. Meeting had been done with the auto rickshaw union to stop harassing passengers.
Recently the High Court of Tripura by issuing an order told the State Government to decide the fare of auto rickshaws. The minister suggested the fare situation should be reviewed by biennial basis based on the recommendation suggested by Tripura High Court.
It is to be mentioned that in the month of January 2014 to July 2014 Transport Department had filed case of violating law against 1,107 drivers. Out of that PIR case was filed against 29. The existing 1078
will be penal tied with a fine of Rs 9,40,300.
