Agartala, September 03: Most fire accidents can be avoided if expenses incurred in post-accident relief are utilized for preparedness and preventive measures, Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Mohanpur) Rajesh Kumar Das said.
Speaking at a seminar on fire risk management held at the ICFAI University, Tripura, campus today, the official said that the state government was trying to look at a shift in policy to tackle fire disasters.
“Most of the fire accidents take place due to lack of precautionary measures and non-compliance of standard safety rules”, he said. The official that the state government is taking all necessary steps to avoid major fire disasters across the state.
SDM Das, made a presentation with experiences from different fire accidents that led to huge casualties and stated that fuel, oxygen and heat are mostly main components of fire accidents. He claimed that all buildings must have a standard safety mechanism installed and the building plans must comply with the fire safety requirements.
The seminar was attended by students, Registrar Dr. Snehalata Behura, Dr. Lopamudra Haldar and other faculties of the institute.
