AGARTALA, September 3 (TIWN): Focusing on the lack of toilets especially for girls in at least 352 schools throughout the state, The Central Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD) has undertaken a project- Swachhya Vidyalaya, Swachhya Bharat and as many as 10,000 schools in the entire country was placed on target under the project.
The TATA Consultancy Service was given the allotment for the construction of lavatory in the schools. In view of the condition, around 352 schools in the state do not have toilet for girls. On the contrary, the number of schools having toilet not viable to use stands at 179.
According to the report of MHRD, there is a total of 523 schools under Sepahijala district and out of the total, 121 schools for girls do not have toilets. Though, 14 schools have toilet, but not viable to use. The number of schools in Khowai district stands at 467 out of which, 69 schools lacks in toilet facilities for girl students. Others are not viable to use.
Similarly, around 10 schools under Dhalai district, 9 schools under Gomati district, 40 schools of North Tripura district, 4 schools of South Tripura district, 50 schools in Unakoti district and 49 schools under West Tripura district do not have toilet for girls. It is worthy to mention here that the highest number of schools having toilets not viable to use is at Unakoti and North Tripura.
It is to be stated that the state schools are granted allocations for construction of lavatory, especially a separate amount is being allotted under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) though, most of the schools in the state lacks in toilet facilities for girls.
