Tripura's famous Biju Festival begins at Unakoti Dist

AGARTALA / PECHARTHAL, April 13 (TIWN): Central Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Tripura Minister NC Debbarma have inaugurated Biju Festival at Pecharthal of Unakoti District.
Different programmes were held in a festive mood in the district on the occasion of Biju festival's beginning on Friday.
Biju is the prime socio-cultural festival in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, which tribal people celebrate by playing traditional games and holding cultural programmes, fairs, rallies, water festival and Garai dance.
The Biju festival is popularly known as Boi-Sa-Bi. The Tripura community calls it Boisu, Marmas call it Sangrai and Chakmas call it Biju. The first two letters of the three words form the word Boi-Sa-Bi.
