AGARTALA, March 23 (TIWN): Tripura Assembly sparked debates after Finance Minister Jishnu Debbarma by mistake uttered 'Vote on Account' during his speech in the Assembly.
Opposition leaders raised point, "Finance Minister is using the term wrongly. He can't simply use this phrase' before the process is done".
A vote-on-account presents an estimate of expenditures to be sanctioned by the exchequer till the Budget is passed. A vote-on-account cannot alter direct taxes since they need to be passed through a finance bill.
But BJP Minister Ratan Lal Nath stood and said, 'What Finance Minister said it's correct !'.
Then CPI-M MLA, Ex-Minister Badal Chowdhury said, 'He is new, so we are trying to correct him......' Ex-speaker MLA Ramendra Ch. Debnath also opposed the utterance of Finance Minister Jishnu Debbarma.
Then Minister Sudip Barman fired debates, saying, 'CPI-M since 25 yrs ruined the financial structure...how can they comment about what's wrong and what's right ?'
With all these a debate developed and a chaos created in the Assembly.
However, the first day of Tripura Assembly was centered with the budgets, planning which already Finance Minister, Chief Minister have announced in last two days' press meets.
