AGARTALA, March 17 (TIWN): Tripura's Veterinary students are undergoing tremendous financial crisis as their internship allowance has been stuck at rupees Thirteen Hundred only. The students of Veterinary alleged that whereas medical students are getting Eighteen Thousand per month, but the negligence of the state govt has left them with only Thirteen Hundred which not even adequate for their bus fares. In Veterinary degree program there is 6 month internship 15 different places like Veterinary hospital , Zoo and different farms as : Shipahijala national Zoo , Devipur mixed farm(near KASBA), Bishalghar veterinary hospital , Ranirbazar , Gandhigram , Rk nagar (cattle farm , Duck farm , TVCC), usha bazar ,Goumati Milk union, Howaibari Pig fram (Teliamura) State veterinary Hospital Abhaynagar etc.In other states the allowances are at least 10,000/0. For example at Karnataka it’s - 14,000/- whereas in Kolkata - 10,000 /-.
On the other side, students are the worst sufferers due to the negligence of the State Govt in Veterinary Education development. Tripura also suffers from poor condition of Veterinary hospitals and maximum of them remain shutdown for 12 hours.
The students have to undergo for 6 months of internship from January to June in 8 / 9 different places inside Tripura like Devipur, Bishalghar , Gandhigram , Sipahijala Zoo , Duck farm , Cattle farm , Training Veterinary clinical Complex (C.V Sc &A.H) , Abhaynagar state vet. hospital , D.I lab. Etc.
But whereas other medical profession like MBBS are doing their Internship on a one particular place i,e A.G.M.C or TMC so their transportation cost is not that much like Veterinary profession but they are getting around 18000/ per month.
Veterinary students internship allowance which is only Rs. 1300 has irked heavy resentment among the students.
Question also raised by the Veterinary, why no such bill was passed in the Assembly so that the students get atleast the deserve amount for their internship ?
