Agartala, August 30 (TIWN): Over 58 percent of schools in the state don’t have any physical instructor, Minister for Sports and Family Affairs Sahid Choudhury said.
Speaking in the monsoon session of the 11th state legislative assembly at Agartala, Sports minister Choudhury said that the state currently operates 2,176 senior basic, high and higher secondary schools under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE). The Department currently has 1,135 approved posts of Physical Instructors (PI) across the state out of which 996 are currently reported to be serving.
Among them, 299 female physical instructors and 697 male physical instructors are engaged in 908 schools.
The figures indicated uneven distribution of the available resources with multiple instructors engaged in the same school while 1,268 schools are running without any teacher from the category.
Asked about the government’s stand on developing sports expertise in schools, the minister said that the Department had sought permission from the Finance Department for creating new posts of Physical Instructors (PI).
“We are hoping to be able to depute at least one physical instructor in each school after the finance approval arrives”, Choudhury stated.
The state government last recruited physical instructors in February this year.
