Agartala, August 29 (TIWN): Over 1,200 Anganwadi Centers are currently operating without any facility of safe drinking water supply, Minister for social welfare and social education Bijita Nath said.
Speaking in reply to a question move by former opposition leader and MLA Ratan Lal Nath at the assembly, minister for social welfare and social education Nath said that 8,912 Anganwadi Centers (AWC) of the state are currently having safe drinking water facility.
While 999 others were not enabled with drinking water supply facilities, 493 Anganwadi Centers which had drinking water facilities installed experienced malfunctions in the system.
The minister further informed that drinking water supply was successfully restored in 268 Anganwadi Centers in the meanwhile. 264 AWCs are still doing without drinking water despite having all infrastructure and facilities installed.
The Department prepared a list of Anganwadi Centers without drinking water facilities and those where the safe drinking water supply system went out of order lately. The list is currently under consideration of the office of Chief Engineer (DWS).
