AGARTALA, Feb 24 (TIWN): Ministry of Home team has visited Reang refugee camps at Kanchanpur subdivision in North Tripura today.
They team has met refugees and learnt about their demands for repatriation.
After today's meeting the officials will also make a visit to Mizoram and will conduct crucial meeting at there.
The Brus (Reang) were to go back to Mizoram on January-2018 but even after crossing the deadline they couldn't send back due to few reasons.
The refugees also said that unless their demands are fulfilled, they will not go back.
Earlier, the refugees demanded intervention from the Central Government to form an autonomous district council for the Bru community following repatriation that follows henceforth.
However, later Central Govt set the deadline for the refugees repatriation on January-2018 and the repatriation was extended due to election. Now it's to be seen what step the Mizoram and Central Govt takes for them.
About 35,000 Reang tribals, who call themselves "Bru", have been living in seven makeshift camps in northern Tripura's Kanchanpur areas adjoining Mizoram for the past 19 years. They had fled after an ethnic violence in Mizoram following the killing of a Mizo forest officer at the Dampa Tiger Reserve.
