AGARTALA, Jan 30 (TIWN): Along with the nation, state Tripura has also remembered the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday.
At Congress Bhawan the leaders have paid floral tribute in front of the portrait of the Mahatma Gandhi and hoisted the national flag.
However, the District Committee of Congress in the State also observed the day and paid tribute to the Mahatma Gandhi.
Martyrs’ Day marks the death anniversary of the father of nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi assassinated on January 30 in the year 1948.
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 and was assassinated on January 30, in the year 1948.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was assassinated on Jan 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse.
Nathuram Godse was hanged on November 15, 1949.
However, according to the history, following nonviolent civil disobedience Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi has led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
The honorific Mahatma has been first applied to him in the year 1914 in South Africa. In India Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is also popular as Bapu.
