ISL 2023-24: Mohun Bagan Super Giant take on Odisha FC seeking redemption for 5-2 defeat

Kolkata, Dec 5 : Their embarrassing 5-2 defeat to Odisha FC in the AFC Cup fresh in their minds, Mohun Bagan Super Giant will step onto the field with revenge on their mind when they take on the Juggernauts in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Wednesday.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant have yet to suffer their first defeat in the ongoing season of the Indian Super League (ISL). Having registered five back-to-back victories, the reigning champions are currently occupying the third spot in the points table.

The top two teams- FC Goa and Kerala Blasters– have played more games than Mohun Bagan thus far. The Kolkata giants can secure the top spot in the standings if they can overcome Odisha FC in the next league fixture. The highly anticipated clash will take place at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake, Kolkata on December 6.

Odisha FC will head to the City of Joy on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Jamshedpur FC. Ahead of the ISL game, Odisha squared off against Mohun Bagan Super Giant for an AFC Cup match. It was a forgettable occasion for the ISL champions, who conceded as many as five goals in their own backyard and could score only two in response.

Mohun Bagan will eye to take revenge for the humiliation this time. In their last ISL appearance, the Mariners got the better of Hyderabad FC to claim a 2-0 victory. It remained goalless till the 85th minute when Brendon Hamill opened the scoring for Mohun Bagan. Asish Rai netted the second goal deep into the second-half stoppage time.
