CPI-M's problem with Israel is 'Natural' as Israel helped India during Kargil war with Pakistan

AGARTALA, Jan 17 (TIWN): Every time the issue of India-Israel relations comes up, the left wing, particularly the CPI-M jumps into protest so in PM Modi's era too CPI-M is doing the same.

During Kargil war, the Indian Air Force came across various problems while providing air support to ground troops including "inaccurate unguided missiles and limited sight of the Pakistani bunkers". They even had orders not to cross the LoC under any circumstances.

At this time, Israel provided laser-guided missiles for IAF Mirage 2000H fighters. The precision bombing material then "limited the advantage of the Pakistani soldiers based on high position" and helped India without violating the orders to not cross LoC.

So, Kanhaiya like people's policy makers can do anything to woo Pakistan's sympathy, it's natural.

Yesterday, sacrificing all decencies, a massive protest rally was conducted in Tripura protesting against Israel PM's entry in India during the visit of the foreign delegate.

Tripura CPI-M keeping Prakash Karat in front is expressing resentments on Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu's India visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart are "ideological soul-mates", the CPI (M) claimed, opposing the visit of Benjamin Netanyahu to India from January 14.

In party organ 'Peoples' Democracy', former CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat has opposed Netanyahu's visit, saying the Israeli prime minister should know that secular and democratic-minded people oppose his policies.

"His official visit is not something which is to be welcomed. Netanyahu is coming at the invitation of the Modi government. Netanyahu and Modi are ideological soul-mates, one represents right-wing ultra-Jewish nationalism while the other is an advocate of right-wing Hindutva nationalism," Karat wrote.

But analysis of CPI-M's opposing of the tie says since the year India and China established full diplomatic relations with Israel. Since then, they have vied for technological collaboration with the Jewish state, not only in military but also, more importantly, in agriculture.

As China and Israel started normalising relations, Israel's arms sale to China in nineties and 2000s started having an effect on Chinese policy makers. The CPI (M) has consistently been the voice of China’s geo-strategic concerns in India.

In this competition for beneficiary relations with Israel, India could have emerged as a strong competitor and also a favoured civilisational partner with Israel. After all, India and Israel are old civilisations and young nation-states.
