AGARTALA, Aug 30 (TIWN): Media is more powerful or a Chief Minister is more powerful ? Question raised after Tripura Chief Minister said reacting on his Independence Day speech’s cancellation by Doordarshan, All India Radio, “How dare they are to ask the Chief Minister to re-shape his speech. Can you imagine”? Chief Minister during a recent interview mentioned this when he was asked to give his reaction on his I-Day speech’s cancellation. “Where are we standing ? It is thoroughly undemocratic, authoritarian, biased, intolerance. It may not suit to them but who are they to judge it”. However, the angry Chief Minister also mentioned that since 2014 such things are increasing. Sarkar was heated after asking whether his speech was political speech in Independence Day and said, ‘I-Day itself is a political day and I spoke on politics but not for election propaganda’. “Being a political worker, how my speech will be out of politics on Independence Day?”However, question raised, why CPI-M broadcasted the issue? Because, if news media can not dictate what will be CM’s speech, how can a Chief Minister teach media about media’s role ?

Manik Sarkar’s speech highlight was , "Unity in diversity is India's traditional heritage. Great values of secularism have helped in keeping Indians together as a nation. Today, the spirit is under attack. Conspiracies and attempts are underway to create an undesirable complexity and divisions in our society; to invade our national consciousness in the name of religion, caste and community, by inciting passions to convert India into a particular religious country and in the name of protecting the cow."

Prasar Bharati sent mail to Akashbani Agartala in which Assistant Director of programmes (policy) for director general, Sanjiv Dosajh wrote, "Keeping in view the sanctity and solemnity attached with the occasion the broadcast is meant for, the CEO, Prasar Bharati was also consulted and the collective decision taken at Delhi advises that the broadcast may not go with its existing content. AIR/Prasar Bharati will however be more than happy if the Hon'ble Chief Minister agrees to reshape the content making it suitable to the solemnity of the occasion and sentiments of the people of India at large."

However, as the Chief Minister didn’t reshape his speech so it was not broadcasted. The Chief Minister seems so arrogant that he can manage scripted interviews for hours to justify his speech, whether he couldn’t manage time to reshape his speech.

A Chief Minister is made by public votes. So he is nothing but a public servant.

But alas after sitting on the chair as the Chief Minister for long Manik Sarkar is now  thinking himself even more powerful than media, whose Communist party died everywhere but with the charity of Tripura people he is still the CM here.
