AGARTALA, Aug 11 (TIWN): A record rain & flooding from Thursday late-night to Friday caused above thousand families affected due to river bank's erosion. At Agartala including Dasami Ghat and Chandrapur total 2 barrages have been collapsed, whereas above 1500 flood affected families have taken shelter in various schools at Agartala. In a press meet, Tripura PWD Minister Badal Choudhury told media, “Agartala City has received 146.6mm of rainfall from 5.30 AM to till 12 noon, breaking records of last 5 years. Rescue operation team has been deployed at Baldakhal, Srilankabosti, Pratapgarh, Rushi Coloni, Kalikapur, Jogendranagar, Pandavpur”. “River Howrah’s erosion level is 10.33 (DL 10.50mt), and Srilankabosti, Pratapgarh, Rushi Coloni, Kalikapur, Jogendranagar have been flooded”, said the Minister. “Total 9 boats have been given in rescue operation. Till 2 PM 17 flood relief camps have been opened with 681 numbers of families”, said Chowdhury.1 person was admitted in GB hospital after mud wall collapsed over victim at Bishalgrah.

However, fact that can not be denied is Agartala City has been worsen due to AMC’s negligence and lack of works, drainage systems pathetic condition etc.

Other subdivisions are not as Agartala eventhough Bishalgarh Bazar is suffering from high speed waterflow.

The situation is worst on National Highway especially across Sepahijala Dist. Huge number of police, traffic officials have been deployed on highway at there.

The capital city Agartala has badly suffered from waist level water, whereas drains, roads on Udaipur Agartala way has been remained unidentified to defined and all offices, banks, police station have gone under knee level water. 

Opposition BJP leader Sunil Deodhar has visited the flood affected areas on Friday.
