AGARTALA, March 1 (TIWN): India's most corrupt DGP K. Nagraj who was charge-sheeted by CBI in 2005, 2007 for stealing public money and amassing wealth disproportionate to sources of income is an utter failure in running Tripura's Police administration. DGP K Nagraj's leadership of Tripura Police Force since 2014 has burdened the state with bundles of pending cases, un-lodged FIRs; although he regularly indirectly claims himself as the 'Best-DGP' in Tripura for decreasing crime-rates 'incredibly' in state. Whereas Nagraj claims about decreasing crime against women, Assembly data revealed that out of 207 rape cases only 96 chargesheets could be submitted by Tripura Police in 2016, whereas only 10 FRs were submitted leading 101 pending cases in total. In 2015 also the scenario was better although. Out of 213 rape cases total 160 chargesheets were submitted and more 16 FRs were submitted and the pending number was 101. But in 2016 the number had radically increased with 101 pending cases. In July 2016 total 21 rape case were registered, in 2016 August total 22 cases, in 2016 Sept 19 cases, in 2016 Oct 16, November 15, December 18 and in January 17.

Apart from that including all kinds of crime against women as dowry deaths, molestation etc. in July 2016 total cases registered 63, in 2016 August total 82 cases, in 2016 Sept 69 cases, in 2016 Oct 68, November 65, December 61 and in January 58.

But as per the Govt data released recently, it was said that 25 % cases are unregistered (i.e. police do not take the cases), and 25 % cases only can end with proper justice. That means around 75 % of the registered and unregistered cases are dumped under files without proper investigation.

Now it's clear how DGP Nagraj made a false data about crime rates of Tripura. According to Nagraj press release, “……….Cases related to torture upon women by husband or relatives of husband, has come down to 410 cases as against 466 in 2015 and 665 cases in 2014. Dowry death cases have come down to 15 as against 27 in 2015 and 35 (As Per Home Ministry's data in the Assembly 61) cases in 2014. Rape cases have come down to 189 during this year as against 197 (As Per Home Ministry's data in the Assembly 213) in 2015 and 225 in 2014. Molestation cases have come down to 202 as against 323 (As Per Home Ministry's data in the Assembly 352)in 2015 and 437 in 2014.  Under remaining heads, it has come down to 55 cases during this year as against 98 in 2015 and 76 in 2014”.

It's worthy to mention here that CBI had also charge-sheeted Nagraj for possessing assets 500 times more than his known source of income long back but case is still pending. However, DGP is likely to transfer from Tripura and to be replaced by a new DPG A K Sukla.
