AGARTALA, Jan 20 (TIWN): Only 4 days left that the long awaited Udaipur-Agartala train service will be launched from January 24th and it will run for 6 days a week. Although Tripura Govt failed to generate any revenue till day, but the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu declared that after Udaipur-Agartala the network will be extended till Sabroom in South Tripura district, which would be the next gateway for India from Bangladesh. Efforts would be made to make it a railway station of international standard once the extension of railway line till Sabroom will be completed. A source said that Suresh Prabhu may jointly flag off the Agartala-Udaipur train services with Tripura Chief Minister Sarkar on January 24. Tripura under the 2 years of Modi Governance has got a host of highly potential sectors for promoting trade and commerce with neighbouring Bangladesh including the forthcoming projects of Indo-Bangla rail link through Akhaura, Indo-Bangla Friendship Bridge over River Feni and the Agartala-Sabroom rail link that would place India’s rail services at arms’ length of Bangladesh Railway network.
Prabhu also assured that ongoing work of extending the railway line till Sabroom would be completed by the end of 2019. He would announce the target while jointly inaugurating the Agartala-Udaipur rail link.
For the land locked state Tripura, it is a dream come true where in just about 2 years of rule in the central, Modi’s Act east policy has shower development in the state in true sense which CPI-M and congress never thought of during their times.
CPI-M in its years of rule in the state and years of rule by UPA government at the central could not even introduce the BG railway service in the state where as under BJP in just less than 2 years of time introduced railway service in the state connecting Tripura in the railway map. However, Sarkar’s sudden interest for Railway and connectivity is centering on the upcoming election, alleged a section of opposition party.
Whereas in FICCI organized Connectivity Summit, CM said that Act East Policy is exploiting Tripura and blames Modi Govt for snatching all power from states, now CM is boosting about Centre and State relation further ahead of Assembly Election.
However Modi's 'Act East' policy has brought BG, Express Train, Indo-Bangla project and tracks laid upto Sabroom after decades of neglect by CPI-M backed Congress Govt.
