KAMALPUR, Jan 11 (TIWN): The era of letter almost came to an end after the quick means of communication like e-mail, SMS, MMS, chatting got invented. Now, people often used to opt for those means of communication.

And the delayed delivery system of postal department also played a pivotal role behind this. In recent times, the postal department claimed to provide hassle free and speedy delivery through registered post, speed post etc. But, the long cherished tradition of slow pace still remained with the department. And probably for this a registered letter needed almost a year to cover 25 kilometres of distance.

In reply to an RTI application, the BDO of Durgachowmuhani RD Block issued a letter to the applicant through registered post on 2nd March, 2016. The letter bore the number F.4 (10)/ BDO/DCM/RTI/2013-14/13617. The letter was send to the applicant about the availability of information. The residence of the applicant remained at the same Block area within a maximum distance of 25 kilometres at Noagaon panchayat. However, the letter reached the applicant yesterday on 10th January, 2017.

It clearly showed the negligence of the postal department and the public inconvenience resulted from it.
