AGARTALA, Jan 11 (TIWN): A Bru repartition meeting held at New Delhi among the Central Govt and Mizoram Govt officials, but the Tripura govt officials were not invited in that meeting. As a result, the repartition which was said to begin from the month of January has failed to commence, whereas the cause of delay is totally unknown to the Tripura Govt. Talking to Sandeep Mahatme, DM of North Tripura Dist. on Bru repatriation, DM informed TIWN that the Bru repatriation update is not as nothing has been clearly mentioned by the Mizo Govt and the Central Govt. After the successful Bilateral meeting held in the month of October at Kanchanpur, the Secretary (Internal Security) Ministry of Home Affairs, Mahesh Singla arrived here in Tripura in the month of December.

In an attempt to take notes on the Bru reparation development, Singla held the meeting with Sandeep Mahatme, the North DM and also met the Brus there at Kanchanpur. But surprisingly after that meeting another meeting held at New Delhi, where North DM remained uninvited.

Mahatme said, “I do not have any idea, although all were set to repart from January. I was not invited in that Delhi meeting, whereas the Mizoram Govt officials were attending that meeting”.

This incident has affected the local peoples lives as due to the clash between Brus and local Bengalies state faced many riots at Kanchanpur earlier.

It’s worthy to mention here that earlier North DM said that the reparation is sure on January-2017, but now the scenario is fully changed, with that meeting held at Delhi again doubt raised regarding the issue.

Following the damages done by the Brus in the month of April when they damaged, burnt many Local people’s homes, a Home Ministry Official Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary, in-charge of Northeast arrived Tripura and held meeting with Tripura Chief Secretary Y P Sing and on the next day he held meeting at Kanchanpur Bru refugee camp, (Kanchanpur, North Tripura---where the Brus or Mizos had taken shelter 19 years back following a crisis at Mizoram and killing a Forest Officer there).

However, nothing was solved after that meeting, as the Mizos told the MHA Officials, until their demands are fulfilled by Mizo Govt. they will not leave the state. However, after that Mizoram Govt. was pushed by the Central Govt. as well as Kanchapur Administration to hurry up the issue.

Around 31,300 Reang tribals, who call themselves "Bru", have been living in seven makeshift camps in northern Tripura's Kanchanpur areas adjoining Mizoram for the past 19 years. They had fled after an ethnic violence in Mizoram following the killing of a Mizo forest officer at the Dampa Tiger Reserve. Now their numbers also have been increased and their families. However, with the interference of BJP led Central Govt. just within 2 years of its power in the Country, has forced the Mizo Govt. to accept the Brus in its state by fulfilling their all demands.

CM  Manik Sarkar also took the issue to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in 2015 after Kanchanpur Fire Mayhem, but after that due to lack of pressure from Tripura CM, same issues are repeating.
