AGARTALA, Dec 2 (TIWN): Although NITI Aayog figure Bibek Debroy during NE Summit-2016, asked directly the CM of Tripura whether the claim for ‘Tripura highest literacy rate in the whole country is 100 % correct or not’ but Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Friday shocked the public with his claim that Tripura’s literacy rate is now about 98 % as per Sept month’s survey. “The survey also revealed that Tripura’s women’s literacy rate is also highest in the whole country”, said Sarkar in the Women Commission’s building inauguration programme held at Agartala. The building of Tripura Commission for Women began long back, which has inaugurated much late in 2016. Sarkar said that this is no doubt an occasion of happiness as the much awaited building of TCW has finally been inaugurated, but the problem of women do not end here, but it has increased more responsibilities of Commission’s member. As per govt data, daily 10-12 counseling are done everyday here which is a huge job but even today women in some way are lagging behind here. Defining the increasing crimes Sarkar said, “There is not a single block, single place where crimes are not held. The crime against women is all over the country”.

“From the beginning a children should be taught with proper behavior, and the curriculum of  schools need to be developed more. No law can prevent crimes upon women unless the society itself is upgraded”, said Sarkar.

He further urged for De-centralization of women commission, and district-wise holding counselings, so that the demand of Commission’s held can be known.

However, Sarkar didn’t missed the opportunity to criticize the BJP led Central Govt and said, ‘although the central govt has various laws for women but in actual the govt has failed to utilize them, but Tripura has given a better example in women’s right.  Only in Tripura various allowance are given to women’, said Sarkar.

He further stressed upon Education, Self-Dependence as the weapon for women here.

But in reality Tripura lacks work-opportunity & thus it ranks 4rth in crime against women.

The women orators however described vividly about the barbaric scenario of the society in Tripura including increasing minor girls’ rape rates in state.
