Health Minister claims high on World AIDS Day : Tripura hospitals lack basic facilities, suffer from unhealthy environment, HIV awareness at  zero level in rural Tripura

AGARTALA, Dec 1 (TIWN): No doubt about that Tripura State AIDS control Society has taken many initiatives to prevent AIDS here in the state and already 200 villages have been covered under the project, where Link Worker Scheme is doing a great job. Under 22 ICTC, 60 FICTC and 2 PPPICTC the counseling is held, and also awareness camps are regularly done to prevent AIDS. In total 13 NGOs are in action to prevent AIDS in Tripura. At Bhangmun Hospital of Jampui, Kailashahar Dist Hospital via OST centers the drug is supplied freely. Govt also declared that Agartala GB Hospital, Udaipur, Kulai Hospitals are functioning to serve free drugs. At GB Hospitals there are special test for the children also. However, overall this was the representation of health scenario on the day of World AIDS Day and Tripura Health Minister Badal Chowdhury also claimed a high about his concern for the people’s health of his state.

But, whereas the issue of awareness comes, it was the same Minister who before few months said that using of contraceptives are helpful to increase crimes in society.

The rural Tripura suffers from various diseases including children’s death report from mal-nutrition.

Tripura hospitals lacks basic facilities and mostly suffers from unhealthy environments where the HIV attacked patients can be kept and most importantly HIV awareness level is 'zero' at rural Tripura.

On the one hand free supply of drugs are mentioned but TIWN reported recently how expired dated medicines are provided to the patients at Dharmanagar primary hospital.... but nobody is there is do the regular inquiry. 

At Bungnag Primary Hospital at North Tripura, expired dated medicines are freely distributed among the patients, whereas doctors sitting inside the hospital are taking fees from each and every patients for any check-up.Protesting the attitude of the doctors, locals gheroued the hospital asking the reason behind such unruly activities of doctors in a Govt medical care.Moreover, it has been known that the mentioned doctor also takes Rs. 100 from each patients, whereas maximum times she works from her quarter and check up patients in private.

 Similar report was received from various hospitals in Tripura.

Badal Chowdhury during Doctor’s Day-2016 himself accepted the fact that at GB Hospital doctors are entering by a door and getting out via another door.

At Rajya Sabha Union Health Minister, J P Nadda reported in 2015-16, one fourth of infants less than 5 years old are suffering from malnutrition. The estimation is 24.3 percent. Half of these infants (48.3%) are suffering from anaemia. Half of infants less than two years old refuse vaccination. The take the toll of infant-deaths to 27 percent. It has been further stated in the report that barely 13.4 percent of pregnant women in Tripura consume Iron and Follic Acid tablets. Transfusion of blood below the requisite haemoglobin level is harmful for the doner and recipient as well.

 As per the National Family Health Survey 2015-16 is concerned, 24.7 percent male (aged 15 to 49) and 54.5 percent female (aged 15 to 49) in Tripura are suffering from anaemia.  The estimation is 24.3 percent. Half of these infants (48.3%) are suffering from anaemia.
