AGARTALA, May 28 (TIWN): Till day it has remained as a distance dream to convert Agartala city into a smart city--- as the city has neither any organized building construction, nor it has any proper drainage system. The Urban Development Ministry recently announced 13 winners of the fast-track Smart City competition, with Lucknow topping the list. Announcing the list, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said Lucknow, which could not make it to the first list of 20 mission cities last year, had improved the quality of its Smart City plan. The other cities that made it to the next round are Warangal (Telangana), Shimla, (Himachal Pradesh), Chandigarh, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), New Town Kolkata (West Bengal), Bhagalpur (Bihar), Panaji (Goa), Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), Imphal (Manipur), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Agartala (Tripura) and Faridabad (Haryana). The minister said these 13 cities were selected on the basis of marks scored by them in the fast-track competition and the benchmarks set by the top performers in the first cycle of the challenge.

Naidu said these 13 cities have substantially improved their Smart City plans by addressing the deficiencies identified in the first round of the competition.

But in actual Agartala city is far way to be a smart city. In a 5 mints rain Agartala town becomes almost a huge lake and vehicle start to stand over water, but Govt. is Smart enough to send files with SMART city plan, which is nothing but a way to grab huge funds in the name of SMART city.

Same is Howrah river project, sanitization this smart city project will be forgotten after the fund comes.

The poor roadway spread across Tripura is developing the discomforts in everyday life of common people here. Not only the discomforts, but the road way day by day is getting dangerous for its people with the increasing number of accidents due to the poor condition of road here.

From Nagerjala to Bordowali the road in its worst condition. In traffic management too everyday there is a chaos all over the city.

Whereas people here are eagerly waiting for a smart city with smart villages and urban bodies after many tall claims done by Minister’s here, but the reality is just the opposite.

No double lane, no smooth roadway, no proper traffics on roads, no proper drain or swages has hit the lives of common people here.

However, central Govt. recently giving an account of the gains of new initiatives and approaches,  said that for the first time in the country, 98 Smart Cities and 497 Atal Mission cities -- accounting for over 70 percent of urban population -- currently have long-term five-year action plans based on comprehensive analysis of infrastructure gaps.

But how far Tripura Govt. will develop the city in next 5 years it’s to be seen, as in last 22 years Govt. has done “Nothing”.
