AGARTALA, Feb 28 (TIWN): Election for the Tripura Bar association on Sunday began amid tight security at the premises of the court from morning 9 which ended on Sunday afternoon 1.30.

Altogether there are 30 candidates of two panels who will be elected through the election. With the winning candidates, a 15-member committee will be constituted for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, two assistant secretaries and 10 members.

As many as 821 voters from across the state cast their votes in favour of the candidates while counting of the votes will be conducted on the same day of vote casting.

Left panel and Congress’s Legal Cell in alliance with anti-left panel are contesting the election which includes All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) of Left panel, Legal Cell of Congress and anti-left alliance of anti-left panel.

Keeping the upcoming election in mind, the candidates of both panels had carried campaign in full swing. According to the political experts, this year’s election is likely to add additional significance as discrepancy in the voters list was alleged into the election.

Reportedly, congress has also alleged discrepancy in the voter list. Alleging discrepancy in the voters list, he also said that this is done only to lessen the vote count of Congress and to gain more votes in the account of left front.

However, the congress legal cell of the Tripura bar association earlier decided to boycott the election on February 28 if the omitted voters are not enrolled in the list.

This is done only to cut the votes of congress and it is a planned strategy to make the left win the election.

As per the rules if anyone’s name is omitted from the list he or she need to be given proper notification but in this case no notification was circulated and without any information altogether 72 names were omitted from the voters list which is not acceptable.

It is to be mentioned here that the election to the Tripura bar association is held on February 28.

However, the counting for the election will be held on Sunday evening.
