AGARTALA, Nov 28 (TIWN): Statewide across Tripura corruption has gripped the PWD in every subdivisions under the regime of Manik Govt. Even tough funds continue to come from the central govt. but the fruit of those funds are invisible yet of today. Either in the matter of road-way construction or building construction, everywhere the sign of corruption is so much visible. It’s worthy to mention here that the state govt. took over the maintenance in September 2013 from the central govt i.e. BRO (Border roads organization). But the main goal of govt. was pocketing the central funds, and exactly from that time NH-44 started to become worse and worse. According to the sources The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had given an approval of Rs. 15 crore for the maintenance and the development of the NH-44, connecting Churaibari with Sabroom via Agartala. Then to de-centralize the issue and to grab the money, CM Manik Sarkar turned the issue by demanding another National Highway from Modi-govt. and for the 4 lane work of NH-44 but since then the issue of the main NH-44 has been fully sidelined by the state govt.

Government also approved investment of Rs.236 crore in Nov., 2008 for pre-construction activities and land acquisition for four-laning of NH-44 in Tripura.

But till day double-lane could not become successful.Protest marchs were organized before few days regarding NH-44 by various political parties, but with the coming of “new” and election campaigns that topic has become an old issue and without renovation this road is left as it is.

Earlier, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik told TIWN that once the dry season comes, the renovation work will be started. But it’s to be mentioned that govt. is completing the work, as per temporary basis, or in other words, just for the name-sake, which will create again the same problem in the following year.

But the political parties of Tripura before few months including BJP, Cong & CPI-M whether were in high competition to highlight their own parties with the issue of NH-44, but presently with their busy schedule of election campaign that issue has gone out of focus.

When all the political parties came in protest, then CPI-M to save themselves on Sep 27, 2015 arranged massive protest rally, against the deplorable condition of NH-44 blaming the Assam Govt. On the following day Cong. staged  protest. Talking to Sudhindra Dasgupta he said, atleast Rs. 30 crores had been sanctioned in the name of NH-44. But what the state govt. has done with all these funds? Whether CPI-M keeps on blaming Assam Govt.; the oppositions are blaming the CPI-M, the ruling party here at Tripura.

But all these as if a by-gone era, with the coming of election political parties are so busy in campaign that no information of NH-44’s development has come yet.

Asking about parties silence over the issue, BJP President Sudhindra Dasgupta he said, “PWD is placing a very negligence role here at Tripura”. Asking about the Assam govt.’s issue he said, “Whatever Assam is doing this has nothing to do with CPI-M”. “Central allocated different-different funds for both states”, said Dasgupta.

However it’s Whole Tripura is badly suffering due toNH-44’s pathetic condition regardless every districts of Tripura.  According to CPI-M, Assam govt.’s negligence and lack of co-operation troubles Tripura too. Whether the condition of NH-44 is everywhere in bad shape at Tripura, CPI-M here in Tripura blames Assam Govt. for not taking steps to renovate the road. Moreover, from Churaibari to Loarpora has become a death trap at Assam.
