AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN): Separate state for tribal people of Tripura or the demand of ‘Twipra Land’ is a democratic right and it should be solved in a democratic way, said N C Debbarma, INPT supremo. The statement has come just after Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated that the demand for Twipra Land by the INPT is simply a move to create nuisance and break the unity among the tribals and the non-tribals.

“We raised the slogan and demanded for Twipra Land on the basis of right being provided by the Constitution of India,” said Debbarma rubbishing the comment of Sarkar.

He alleged that the ruling CPI-M and its Left front government is trying to daunt the demand of IPFT in the fascism manner. Adding to it he further pointed out that the CPI-M is now worried on the emergence of IPFT.

“We are not pushing for any irrelevant or unconstitutional demand; our state demand is lawful”, party president said.

Referring to the claim by the IPFT that after the party had placed their demand to the government at the centre the government had sought the state’s opinion, CM Manik Sarkar talking to the reporters said, “We have not received any such letter from the centre where we are asked to place our opinion in this regard.”

Sarkar slammed the IPFT for trying to fan unrest in the State where ‘peace has returned after two decade long insurgency and ethnic turmoil’.

IPFT leaders conceded that the decision of the central government to create Telangana state has rejuvenated them as well as other groups in the country engaged in stirs for separate states.
