AGARTALA, August 27 (TIWN): Despite of several strict rules and vigilance, Girls and women of the so called Golden Era of Manik Government are yet unsafe in state even in the broad day light.

It gets clear when we flash back to the incident of Minakshi Debnath, a student of Tripura University was assaulted and abused by an unruly auto driver following a heated conversation between the commuter and driver over change and extra fare at Battala on August 21.

Minakshi Debnath is a student of Tripura University, is a resident of a rented house in Panchabati area of Nutan Nagar adjacent to cooperative.

However, it is shameful that after being assaulted when the girl knocked the door of the West Women Police Station, the OC in Charge denied to file any complaint against the unruly auto driver instead the OC i/c suggested her to mutual the incident.

Talking to TIWN, Chairperson Purnima Roy expressed disappointment saying the Women Police who are appointed to stand beside the women, in this so called Golden Era of Left Rule Government on this pathetic situation stepped back.

She further said that the police must play an active role to bring an end to the crime which is rising day by day.

Regretting over the issue she said that police remaining silent over such issue gives a message of ‘super power’ to the culprits. Today one incident came in to lime light and if the police remains silent than kind of issues will get rampant.

She said that knowing about the incident, the Tripura Commission for Women sent a letter mentioning to take an immediate action against the unruly auto driver.

Besides, it is learnt that in places like Agartala, Lake Choumuhani, Ram Nagar, Krishnagar area, Dhaleshwar, by-pass and some other remote areas girls are coming to this heinous profession sex racket that can only lead them to a dangerous future.

In most of the cases the girls who become victims are from very poor families. Deep rooted poverty encourages them to take this profession as a means if living their lives in comfort far from their families.

The reports said smugglers from both Bangladesh and India were mainly engaged in the sex trade.

Poor girls trafficked in and even female students from affluent families, who stay in hostels, join the sex racket for easy and quick money.

It is to be mentioned here that the trafficking racket has an administrative reach in Tripura by which they managed fake passports and sent the minors outside India. Many minors are sold through this racket in other part of the nation and even sometime outside country.

However, police is play a role of silent spectator.
