CFLE organises Meet-cum-Workshop on “Traditional Medicines for most common diseases”

AGARTALA, August 27 (TIWN): Stressing on the importance of the traditional medicines (Ayurvedic) for the most common diseases, a one day Interactive Meet-cum-Workshop has been held at Gandhigram, Agartala on Aug 25.

The programme has been inaugurated by Shri Angshuman Dey, Director, NCE.  Ayurveda Doctors, Scientists, Taxonomists, Traditional Healers (Kaviraj) and other experts from the field of herbal medicines participated in the interactive sessions.

Pritam Bhattacharya, CEO, Medicinal Plants Board of Tripura detailed the aims and objective of the event medicine while adressing the programme. Pawan K Kaushik, Regional Director, CFLE said that it is a time to work in close association with the Traditional Healers in the State and showcase their unique and valuable traditional knowledge through proper documentation.

Angshuman Dey, in his inaugural address expressed his concern over the acceptance of traditional methods of treatment using the valuable resource of medicinal plants. He also pointed out the present trend which shows that people in general prefer modern costly treatment instead of alternative traditional healing practices by the Kavirajs.  

The technical session was marked by a presentation on Tripura Kaviraj Sangha and importance of different medicinal plants used in traditional healing practice by various Kaviraj in the State. Later, these plant specimens were screened and identified. Sample of plants brought by the different Kaviraj were displayed in the exhibition. The ingredients, the method of preparation and the prescription for treatment of ten most common diseases practiced by different Kaviraj were also discussed. 

To establish effectiveness of the medicines prepared and prescribed, all the Kaviraj presented their pictures, documents and some of them even brought the cases of cured patients in the occasion.

At the plenary session, the participant Kavirajs made their presentations and also shared their issues at the meeting followed by interactions with the Doctors, Scientists, Taxonomists and other experts who shared their valuable suggestion in the improvisation of the traditional method of treatment.
