AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): Fielding of two new faces in the by polls to the 13 Pratapgarh and 46 Surma Assembly constituencies of Tripura by ruling CPI (M) has given rise to some serious questions about the future tactics of the ruling CPI (M) in the state. The ruling CPI (M) which announced the names of Ramu Das and Anjan Das as their candidates for the ensuing 13 Pratapgarh and 46 Surma Assembly constituencies’ by polls respectively are facing dissatisfaction from the party’s long time comrades who were in the run for the tickets of the two assembly constituencies. The by poll for the two assembly constituencies of the state will be held on June 27 alongwith the rest of the country. The 13 Pratapgarh and 46 Surma assembly seats fell vacant after the death of the sitting MLAs Anil Sarkar and Sudhir Das respectively. Names of many potential candidates surfaced in the political circles for the two assembly seats but the decision to field the relatively inexperienced candidates in the two constituencies have demoralised many aspirants who were lobbying in different corners for getting their names cleared for the candidature.

For the 13 Pratapgarh assembly seat, names of expelled CPI(M) leader and murder accused Jiten Das surfaced in various circles besides the name of the then Editor of CPI(M) mouth piece Gautam Das.

Jiten Das’ arrest in connection with his wife Kalpana Das’s murder put an end to his prospect alongwith the possibility of Gautam Das getting the nomination for the seat.

Recently retired TCS officer and party’s blue eyed boy Sambhu Nama’s name was also in the discussion alongwith sitting Sadar SDM Manik Lal Das and Rajya Sabha MP Jharna Das Baidya.

But the CPI(M) Melarmath think tank thought the other way round and decided two field two comparatively unknown faces in the by elections.

The step to field Ramu Das, was the most surprising one as the Post Graduate student of Tripura University was not holding any top post in any of the wings of the ruling CPI (M). Anjan Das was holding CPI(M)’s LCM post for sometime.

The two new faces will have no problem in winning the seats for the party, but the discontent that has been created by the step of the CPI (M) think tank may create problem for the party in future thinks the political analysts here.

The divided opposition will not be in any position to make any noticeable impact in the by elections thinks the political analysts here claiming that the opposition will fight for the second post in respect of the votes.
