Agartala, March 7 (TIWN): Since the inauguration of Srinagar border haat state tradesman sold goods of worth Rs 17.01 lakh and Bangladesh tradesman sold Rs 9.87 lakhs ( Indian currency) till 17 February, this was stated in assembly on Wednesday by industry minister Tapan Chakraborty.
The local tradesman sold- banana, cashewnut, bakery items, tea, dresses, ginger etc. The trades man from Bangladesh sold – fruits, vegetables and plastic things
The first 'haat' or market in the state along the India – Bangaldesh frontier was inaugurated on 13 January to boost local trade and people-to-people contacts.
The construction of the fourth such facility was underway at Tripura's Kamlasagar, bordering Bangladesh's Tarapur Kashba in Brahmanbaria district.
Trading at the 'haat' would initially take place once a week among the people living within 5 km radius of the border who would sell and buy locally produced goods and crops, minister said.
25 local traders-producers each from India and Bangladesh would be allowed to sell their wares and products in the 'border haat', he said.
No local taxes would be imposed on the items to be sold in the haats and currencies of both the countries would be allowed to run the trading.
