Agartala, January 29 (TIWN): At the time when the Chief Minister of Tripura claiming that ‘golden era’ is going on in full swing in the state, a major portion of people of the state are experiencing acute drinking water crisis in the remote rural hamlets from the beginning of ‘dry spell’. As a part, drinking water crisis gripped the entire Madhuban area of Kathaltali under Dukli RD Block for over past few months.

The villagers alleged, though, several water supplies are available in the area, all the water taps are lying in miserable condition due to non-maintenance by the concerned department. At such situation, the villagers are passing days by drinking poor quality water of ponds and other water bodies located in the area, they said.

“Despite several requests, CPI-M ruled Panchayat and block authorities did not take any initiative to solve the long-term problem. The political leaders commit false promises going door-to-door before any election and collect votes. After the election they forgot the committed promises and remains busy with strengthening the personnel bank accounts by misappropriating a huge public fund”, said a resident of Madhuban.

“Though, the concerned authority manage to supply drinking water by roaming tankers in that area, the quality of water is very poor and inadequate to the residents”, said a local source.

The residents also requested the pump operator for several times to increase the amount of water through pipelines by increasing duration. But, the pump operator informed the residents that it is not possible until the pipelines are cleaned and repaired by the concerned authority, added the source.

With the beginning of dry season, the villagers of most of the interior areas located at the outskirt of capital city Agartala Chanmari, Bhalluktilla, Madhuban and other areas facing severe problems of water crisis. Though they protested many times, but the concerned department turned a deaf ear to the major problem.
