AGARTALA, January 28 (TIWN): Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Birajit Sinha today criticized the Modi-led BJP govt. over the ordinance making amendments to the land acquisition act. Talking to the media persons today at Agartala Congress Bhawan Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Birajit Sinha said that the erstwhile UPA government had formulated pro-farmer land policy after consultations with all political parties including BJP and suggestions given by it were also incorporated in the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. "Now the Modi government has issued ordinance amending the land acquisition act, according to which farmers consent will not be necessary for certain acquisitions and has also included other anti-farmer provisions," Sinha said.

The new Oridnance, Birajit  believes, will pave the way for forcible land acquisition, excess land acquisition, diversion of land for purposes other than it was acquired and acquisition of multi-cropped land. “Modi govt. has deprived the poor people as well as the farmers especially the tribal farmers of the state at large”, claimed Sinha. Adding to that he said that the congress calls this a “Black Ordinance”.

He said the new government says it brought 13 Acts into the purview of the new Act. "It is making a virtue out of a necessity because in the Act that was passed in September 2013, these 13 Acts, the R and R (Relief and Rehabilitation) and Compensation had to be brought on par with new norms within one year and that is what this government has done. They have not done any favours to farmers or to land owners," he said.

Terming the land ordinance as "black ordinance" and "unjust" Sinha said "We will fight against the 'black' and 'unjust' ordinance on land acquisition by burning symbolic copies of it.” He further added that the newly amended ordinance by the Modi govt. may also bring a barrier between the India and Bangladesh relation and also may bring change in Agartala airport extension work.

TPCC Spokes Person later talking to the media today during the press conference said that the ordinance has now turned to a very dangerous act that will bring major hurdle for the poor farmers of the country. Adding to that he said that such a law clearly indicates that there is something wrong.
