Pandemic Standstills Normal Lives as Curfew begins in Agartala AMC Areas Today : Essential Commodity, Emergency Services are Functional, Police Security Beefed up

AGARTALA, May 17 (TIWN): Covid-19 pandemic which has hit the global population is in its peak with the second wave in India. Tripura's capital city Agartala area's positivity rate was found above 65% in comparison to the whole state led the Dist Magistrate to order a Corona Curfew for 10 days, which has started from today. Roads in Agartala remained almost empty on Monday as Covid-Curfew was imposed for 10 days in Agartala Municipal Corporation areas. From morning, tight vigilance by police was witnessed in market places and checking of vehicles were seen. 

Except emergency purposes all movements have been curbed, though essential commodities shops, fuel stations and other Telecommunication Service Centres remain under functioning.

Though markets with vegetables, food items were found open but hardly customers were seen as the District Magistrate had ordered people to stay "indoors" except for utmost needs. In an order, the DM cleared stated, "No person shall go out of their homes or shall move on foot or by vehicle or travel or roam around any road of public places during the above mentioned hours except for essential and emergency needs". 

India, in the last 24 hours, recorded 2,81,386 new Covid-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry update showed on Monday. With this, the total tally reached 24,965,463. The case count has fallen below the 3-lakh mark for the first time in 25 days. However, 4,106 people succumbed to the disease in the said period, which pushed up the death toll to 274,390. 

The number of active cases have down to 3,516,997 from Sunday’s 3,618,458 — the biggest single day drop ever.
