AGARTALA, March 26 (TIWN): High Court Senior Advocate Purushottom Roy Barman on Friday while addressing media has said that Tripura High Court in its verdict on 10323 teachers' protest demand has expressed surprises over Police's role against Peaceful protest programmes. Addressing media, Purushottom Roy Barman said, "High Court's verdict was in favour of Democratic Agitation Process. Pranab Dey, a teacher among 10323 had filed the petition in High Court after on January 27, police by force had sealed the protest spot and conducted lathi-charge on the teachers and also police denied to give anymore permission to the 10323 teachers to protest further. High Court has said that Peaceful protest is everyone's constitutional right and police can not suppress the protests in this way. High Court indeed expressed surprise over Police's role. Now, Court has asked teachers to appeal for protest to police again and by 48 hours, response will have to be given by police".

"Moreover, if a particular spot which was demanded by 10323 teachers for protest can not be given, then an equal important place should be given and through discussions, it has to be decided. It means, if anyone appeals to protest at Agartala, police can't direct him/her to go to Atharamura to protest because in Democracy protest's aim is to create wave in the society and it has to be in certain spots only. Now, the teachers will appeal for protest's restarting", said Barman.

He further added, "Tripura Police Act says that if anyone protests peacefully and democratically, then permission does not require. S/he has just to inform the police".

It can be mentioned here that Chief Minister Biplab Deb who earlier said that High Court had dismissed 10323 teachers plea of Protest Permission has now received embarrassment as High Court's judgement copy said totally the opposite.

CM's statement came before the Judgement copy was given by Court. He said at Khowai that High Court also realized that his Govt has no fault for 10323 teachers job-loss and thus 10323 teachers' protest is illegal.

"What Chief Minister has said, I did not listen but High Court's verdict is in support of demonstration and police have to permit by 28 hours when 10323 teachers will appeal. Better police should read the judgement", said Purushottom Roy Barman.
