AGARTALA, Jan 19 (TIWN): After renaming Kolkata Port with Shyama Prasad Mukharjee port in Bengal, now Tripura BJP has started renaming of places, which however needs no Central Fund but can buy sentiments at free-of-cost. While addressing on the Kokborok Day, Chief Minister Biplab Deb said that in respect of Kokborok language our Govt has done this and this is the auspicious occasion to announce this when the state is celebrating Kokborok Diwas. IPFT Minister Mebar Jamatia said that total 5 names will be changed and the BJP-IPFT Govt will go through a ‘historical revival’. Mebar Jamatia said, yesterday 5 names were offered in the Cabinet but due to emergency situations and short of time, only one was approved. He thanked Chief Minister Biplab Deb for this saying, more name changes ahead. While addressing media, Biplab Deb praised Central Govt for solving Reang issues at Rs. 600 crores of package, although when the package will be allocated it was not told by him.

CM further mentioned that many similar proposals were given to the Central Govt for fund sanctioning and the Central Govt is looking after the issues. 

However similar trends of name-changing is going on across. Days after renaming the Kolkata Port Trust after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) icon Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the party's Member of Parliament (MP) in Rajya Sabha, Subramanian Swamy, has now demanded for the iconic Victoria Memorial building to be renamed after Rani Lakshmi Bai.

"I welcome Namo’s statement in Kolkata that history as we know should be reviewed. He should implement that statement by renaming Victoria Memorial as Rani Jhansi Smarak Mahal," Swamy tweeted.

"Queen Victoria took over India after the betrayal of Rani Jhani in 1857 and looted India for 90 years (sic)," Swamy added in his tweet.

Rani Jhansi was one of the leading figures for India's freedom struggle, and had played a pivotal role in the Rebellion of 1857.
