TPCC recalls former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary

Agartala, Oct 31 (TIWN): Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders, supporters and workers including Pradesh Youth Congress, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Congress Seva Dal remembered the former Prime Minister of India- Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary and paid homage to her on Friday at Congress Bhavan.

Following the observance of 30th death anniversary Indira Gandhi, Tripura Opposition Leader- Sudip Roy Barman hosted the National Flag by 8 am and paid homage in her memory. Later, TPCC working president- Ashis Saha , Youth Congress state president- Susanta Chowdhury, NSUI state president- Bapi Das and Congress Seva Dal convenor- Sukhmoy Saha hosted the party flags respectively and paid floral tributes in her memory.

On her 30th death anniversary, all the Pradesh Congress leaders, supporters and workers observed silence for 1 minute and performed National Anthem. Later, they moved to Gandhighat and paid homage in her memory. Besides, former Prime Minister of India- Indira Gandhi was recalled today by the Congress in district level, block level and other places including Bishalghar, Ramnagar, Khowai, Dharmanagar, Kailasahar, Melaghar and Udaipur.

Besides, Opposition leader, MLA Gopal Roy, MLA Jiten Sarkar, Kalyani Roy, Ratna Datta and many others attended the observance of her death anniversary.  

She was assassinated on October 31, 1984, near her then Delhi residence by two Sikh security guards who wanted vengeance for authorizing a military attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar five months earlier. Later, massive riots erupted in the nation following her murder, as Hindus took their revenge on Sikhs.

A day before Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead; she told in a public rally that "If I die today, every drop of my blood will invigorate the nation".
