Govinda Manikya indeed came much later than Dhanya Manikya who actually built Matabari temple. King Dhanya Manikya Bahadur built the temple in 1501, also much before Babur established his Mughal empire and Govinda Manikya’s era was twice 1660-61 and 1667-76. He was unseated from thrown in an intrigue of his step brother Nakshatra Manikya and hostage in the court of Mughal Subedar in Bengal with the help of Subedar Mir Jumla (1660-63). Later Govinda Manikya again seated on throne.

On the other side, King Dhanya Manikya ruled a long time from 1463 to 1515.

Current Background of Matabari : This bloodshed less Puja was started on the occasion of Durga puja’s Maha-Astami on October 6, 2019 under High Court’s order.

There would be no sacrifice of animals during Durga Puja in the famous Durga Bari temple here for the first time in 525 years as the Tripura High Court has banned the centuries-old tradition of animal sacrifice in religious places.

A division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh in a landmark judgement on September 27, 2019 ordered that no person including the state government shall be allowed to sacrifice any animal or bird within the precincts of any of the temples in the state of Tripura.

Tripura's Law and Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath however said that the state government in a day or two would file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court against the Tripura HC order.

However, INPT said this can not be tolerated and the animal sacrifice process must not be stopped, supported Tripura Govt for appealing to Supreme Court.
