Tripura Govt targets vision to shape Tripura as ‘Medical Hub’ : Ease in Transport, Communication likely to expand opportunities

AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): As lakhs of Tripura patients and multi-lakhs of neighboring country Bangladesh patients fly to Calcutta and other big cities of India for treatment, Govt of Tripura has decided to convert Tripura into a medical hub. This decision was taken long back, whereas today in a meeting of the health dept with Dental Surgeons Chief Minister Biplab Deb was heard to say about lack of specialists in the state but talks are going on with various high profile doctor whether they can shift in Tripura, however, a massive development in the infrastructure, work-culture and trained medical staffs are needed so far. CM also announced Rs. 107 crore's new project of infrastructure to be unveiled under PPP model. Govt earlier had announced to privatize the Govt hospitals in Tripura under PPP model which always gives better service.Chief Minister Biplab Deb earlier said that the state Tripura also to get profit from at least 85,000 Bangladesh patients per year after privatization of those Hospital in PPP model, but for that medical hub’s establishment is very important.It can be remembered that back in January 2019 announcing privatization of Govt hospitals in Tripura in PPP model, CM claimed that 85,000 patients per year go to Chennai in India for treatment.

Biplab Deb said, with private partnership patients of Tripura who have to run at Chennai, Kolkata for treatment, they will not have to go out then.

Time to time, CM is following up talks with the central govt and already for AIIMS like hospital permission has been granted in state and once land is allocated, central govt will talk in this matter further.

Tripura is undergoing transport system development, which will ease the movements of the patients. By next year Tripura will have new terminal in the Airport and flight from Dhaka via Agartala will land hopefully by January. Also Indo-Bangla various routes projects are undergoing construction aimed to convert Tripura as the gateway of Southeast Asia.
