Congress didn’t get permission to celebrate Indigenous Day on 9th August

AGARTALA, Aug 8 (TIWN): Tripura Congress didn’t get permission to celebrate World Indigenous Day on August 9, expressed resentment by the State Congress President Pradyot Deb Barman.

This day is however celebrated across world on 9th August.

Congress President Pradyot Deb Barman said that it’s quite shocking that even a national party couldn’t get permission to celebrate Indigenous day.

“This only reflects what the sentiment of the government is towards the tribal community.This was the first time any national party had tried to hold this event in the state for the Tribals”, in a statement the Congress State President said.

In the cause Tripura Police said that after examine, the proposed rally has been declined in view of apprehension of breach of peace.

Noteworthy, the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is observed on 9 August each year to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. This event also recognizes the achievements and contributions that indigenous people make to improve world issues such as environmental protection.
