AGARTALA, Aug 3 (TIWN): For the first time, Tripura University celebrated the death anniversary of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar on 2nd August (Friday), at 12.00 noon at the Hall No.2 of Academic Building XI. The program was organized by the Department of Political Science. On this occasion as a mark of respect towards his contribution in the society, a talk was delivered by Prof. V. L. Dharurkar, Tripura University on the ideas and life of this key figure of the Bengal Renaissance. Vidyasagar tried to provide an answer to ancient problems.
He was in favor of gender equality and he provided educational opportunities to all said Prof. Dharurkar, Vice-Chancellor while talking on the topic Life and Vision of Vidyasagar. He said that awakening in Bengal was the beginning of Renaissance and he created the base for the right of nationalism. He further said that Vidyasagar was a title based on his knowledge in Sanskrit language and he was truly an ocean of knowledge. He developed new theories based on socio-economic and cultural development. Prof. Dharurkar also said, that Tripura University is also going to celebrate 200 birth anniversary of Vidyasagar on 26th September, 2019.
In the program, all the faculties, research scholars and students of the department were present including Dean, Arts & Commerce Prof. C. B. Majumder. This is an inaugural lecture in the Friday Lecture Series that the Department of Political Science is initiating, where weekly talks on issues of Socio-Political importance will be organized by the Department of Political Science under the guidance of HoD & CDC (i/c), Dr. Alak Bhattacharjee. The program ended with National Anthem.
