AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): Unbelievable, but fact that Agartala city’s major sections of drains remained uncleaned for long 10 years at least, even though till date, AMC is under the CPI-M control.

Recently, Chief Minister Biplab Deb visited AMC areas, even he warned suspension of employees for negligence of duties but not much development came unless Govt started direct intervention from water-body cleaning in Gol Bazar area or today’s drain cleaning after 10 years !

The areas which started the cleaning work project began from Shibnagar Khal, Kalapania Drain, Old Howrah river, East PS drain, M G Baazar pond.

There are 21 Baazar areas in Agartala which need to be cleaned urgently.

“These drains were never cleaned by municipality. Only few Mandays were given to each Baazar. People don’t like to go to MG Baazar, Gol Baazar, Battala Fish Market, Lake Choumuni, G B Baazar because of dirt. Due to CM’s special attention, AMC is getting active nowadays”, said sources.

Secretariat source said, “These drains were never cleared in last 10 years. People in Agartala are saying that this is the good work taken up by new government. We will complete all major drain cleaning by September”.

Govt is putting 10 machines and 600 labours for this special drive.

CM Deb has not received any new officer for the project but his efforts are changing things and attitudes of officials are also getting positive and responsible.

It’s an irony that Kiran Gitte during Manik Sarkar’s time started cement covering all drains causing flooding after every splash of rain, now same Kiran Gitte working hard to cleanse drains with AMC team.
