AGARTALA, July 18 (TIWN): Confusions continue about IPFT and BJP’s commitments and alliance deal since pre-Assembly election session. BJP continues to say, it never promised Tipraland, whereas IPFT continued to say just the opposite either directly or indirectly. Just like people of Tripura till day do not know whether BJP at centre had promised about statehood or nor, in the same way again confusions are generated as IPFT Minister Mebar Jamatia yesterday said, the talks were very positive with the central govt whereas state BJP leaders told media that Centre remained reserved about Tipraland demands. The Union Government has remained noncommittal about the statehood demand of the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), a junior ally of the ruling BJP, officials and party sources said.
Senior officials of Tripura’s Home Department and leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) separately said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other central ministers have remained ambiguous about the statehood demand of the IPFT. But Mebar Jamatia said just the opposite.
Mebar Jamatia on yesterday told media after arriving in Agartala Airport that IPFT’s Delhi abhiyan has remained hugely successful. News reports which claimed, IPFT was not given importance by the central govt has been rubbished by Mebar Jamatia. He said, these reports are misleading, rather IPFT’s meeting was so successful that after 15 days they have been called again for another set of meeting. The IPFT leader also said that the present Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also more cooperative than the previous Minister who have given IPFT huge time to discuss about all problems. The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura is a regional political party in Tripura, India. It is a member of the North-East Democratic Alliance and North-East Regional Political Front, a group of political parties of the northeast that supports the National Democratic Alliance. The party is in alliance with BJP formed the State Govt with two of its Ministers.
A delegation of the IPFT led by party President and Revenue Minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma and party General Secretary and Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) and PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) Minister Jitendra Singh and Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Monday and Tuesday and discussed about their various demands including statehood.
