AGARATALA, October 21(TIWN): Scared with the continuous scams now being published in electronic as well in national media CPI(M) Central committee is learnt to have been worried about the party's future in Tripura, the only state where CPI(M) is now in power, also the sole funding source nationwide for party. Dozens of massive scam news have been published in media highlighting how the Govt machineries have been utilized in such organized scams. And even the image Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who has been promoted as Party's “clean” face at the national level , is now under severe question mark. Central Committee is learnt to have taken a serious note especially after various multi-crore scams got leaked in media. To discuss this issue Central Committee has called an emergency meeting for Tripura during Party's central committee meet 26th-29th October to be held in New Delhi.

Apart from Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, 2 Lok Sabha MPs namely Sankar Datta and Jitendra Chowdhury too are asked to attend the meeting. Again Rajya Sabha MP Jharna Das will also be present on this meeting, said a top level Melarmath leader.

CPI(M) has already lost its footing as a formidable party at the national level especially after the back to back poor performance that began in 2009. In 2009 CPI(M) lost many seats to Trinamool Congress-Congress-SUCI alliance. And in 2011 CPI(M) had to suffer landslides defeat in Kerala and West Bengal and again in 2014 Look Sabha Poll the party has only succeeded to win in 9 Lok Sabha seats. Only in 2013 Assembly poll the party made a huge victory thumping majority in Tripura.

But during the last few months scams after scams are being published in local and national media. And the image of the party and especially Chief Minister Manik Sarjar's so called ' White and Clean' image too are under question mark. Many have started to believe that in 2018 CPI(M) will face a tough challenge to retain its power in Tripura.

Interestingly in most of the cases the corrupt officials and leaders who are involved are known to be 'close to Chief Minister'. And many even allege that simply because of their intimacy with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, police will never dare to take any steps against them. Recenlty scams like Rs 24 crore NRHM in Kailashahar, Rs 5 crore RMSA and Rs 17 crore MGNREGA are on top list. Apart from these scams took place in PMGSY, SSA and DWS and ARDD department. In total the value of the money lootted would easily cross Rs 300 crores. In all these cases some officials have been suspended and some even have been arrested. But no attempt of arrest has been taken place against CMs favoured TCS officer cum DYFI state Secretary Amal Chakraborty's brother BDO Bimal Chakraborty. Many even those within the party have started to believe that former Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury has been removed from Finance Ministry in order to protect CMs close aide Bimal Chakraborty. And current Finance Minister Bhanu Lal Saha too is involved with the MGNREGA scam, alleged a top level Melarmath leader. Still Bimal Chakraborty is transferred to ICA Department and that too under Bhanu Lal Saha as Minister. After all such incidents Manik Sarkar's clean image is out under serious question. And in such situation the Central Committee meeting is said to be a ' Damage Control ' one.

It is to be noted that Tripura witnessed maximum number of scams in recent years under the leadership of Chief  Minister Manik Sarkar,  also  during the same period when Civil Administration led by  former Chief Secretary Dr. S.K.Panda. In no other times in Tripura's political and administrative history,so many scams took place in every layer of  State Government. A CBI probe is must to unearth these dark nexus of politicians and bureaucrats.
