AGARTALA, July 6 (TIWN): Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s Nesha-Mukt Tripura slogan turned a joke as various BJP leaders continued drug smuggling business across Tripura. A section of BJP leaders’ true colour behind “Nesha Mukt Tripura” has been exposed as during random raids of contraband items, BJP’s Panchayat Election candidate himself was arrested after BSF and police found huge amounts of drugs in his home. The candidate of BJP Jakir Hossain has been arrested in a joint drive of BSF, Police at Miapara of Bishalgarh. Border area’s 110 number gate lined home of Jakir Hossain was raided, who is the candidate of BJP’s 5 number ward. Yaba tablets worth above 2 lakhs along with phensedyl and Bangladesh currency were recovered. Police are now interrogating Hossain, which has damaged party’s image in the state. Such types if incidents indicate how under ruling party’s banner drug-smugglers are controlling the narcotic empires.

Sonamura, Bishalgarh, Boxonagar, Dhanpur areas are corridors for such activities and Hossain was although arrested, it can be understood that many smugglers like him are residing in the state, pouring cold water on Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s Nesha Mukt Tripura. However, Jakir Hossain is just a small figure but the big figures even though known to all but holding topmost positions in the party.

On the occasion of  “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb said on Wednesday that unlicensed drug-dealings and consuming trends are more dangerous than insurgency problems.CM said that recently yaba tablets’ smuggling via Sonamura border have concerned the state.  Tripura has marked as the international smuggling corridor. Also Govt has stopped vehicle checking in the border which is increasing threats of such drug smuggling.

The smuggling network, which runs its production hub in the Wa State of Myanmar, has established a strong base in Sepahijala district of Tripura through Bangladesh.  Border Security Forces in Tripura also continuously seizing contrabands including ganja mostly from Sonamura, Boxonagar areas under Sepahijala District. In a note of concern, BSF in Tripura said that now a days drug-smugglers are appointing ladies for narcotic business.Even though Chief Minister Biplab Deb is designing “Drug Free Tripura” and police are working on that direction but the drug-mafias are increasing in numbers.

The problem occurred as all the drug mafias which was earlier under CPI-M shelter now have taken BJP’s shelter by joining the party aimed to continue their drug empire. Indeed, drug-consuming rate has increased in Tripura in past one year.  Recently in an official statement, it came out that the number of Injecting Drug Users (IDU) is on the rise in Tripura in spite of efforts by the state AIDS control society to control the menace, officials said.  The Injecting Drug Users are mostly concentrated in Kanchanpur and Damchera in North Tripura District and Dhalai district, the officials said.  The way mafias have changed political colours after election for drug-smuggling in same way other illegal works as Fuel-Theft have also been continuing in North Tripura with colour changing politics.
