AGARTALA, April 22 (TIWN): Tripura Congress will move to Supreme Court with all evidences of poll violence if re-poll for the West Tripura is not announced. Already complaint has been sent against CEO Sriram Taranikanti for sending fake data on scrutiny of CCTV footage. CEO told ECI that opposition had no objection in voting system, whereas no opposition leader was present during such scrutiny on 13th April. Congress has demanded re-arrest of the accused electoral officers who manipulated poll on 11th March. 6 electoral officers were detained for interrogation on yesterday but immediately they were released on bail which has erupted massive resentments. At the same time, Congress also complained against appointment of IGP Puneet Rastogi in charge of Law & Order as he is close to BJP.

In a written complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Congress Vice President Tapas Dey said, “This is to state that as per our reports, errant Presiding Officers, Micro-Observers, Polling Officers and Polling Agents, who were arrested in different police stations of Tripura, were released on bail, which is in direct contravention of the instructions given by the Election Commission of India (ECI). We wish to state that all these persons, who are directly responsible for violation of Election Commission guidelines during polling hours on April 11 when West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency underwent polling, should have been arrested under non-bailable sections at the first place”.

Congress also demanded re-arrest and punishment to the erring police officials who violated Order of the Election Commission at the earliest and help in building strong confidence among voters at Santir Bazar.

“Many of these people deliberately suppressed incidents of booth capturing in the Presiding Officer’s Diary, others deliberately shied away from reporting these illegal activities to the Returning Officer. These are criminal violation of rules and regulations and instance of sheer negligence of their official duties”, the Congress alleged.

Congress today has sought urgent action to secure East Tripura Election of 23rd April and to stop repetition of West Tripura poll rigging of 11th April.

In a letter to the CEO Sriram Taranikanti 4 urgent steps were demanded. These urgent steps are :

  1. There are reliable sources that BJP has pushed huge numbers of goons in the East Tripura. They are sure to be used to threaten the voters, polling agents in night hours,
  2. Congress also demanded drastic action against identified criminals and to stop BJP led goons’ violence in East Tripura once the campaigning deadline is ended,
  3. Safety of the polling agents inside booths,
  4. Not to allow bikers more than two.
