AGARTALA, Jan 8 (TIWN): 2-days-long strike called by trade unions have crippled normal lives in Tripura, even though so far no picketer of the opposition was active since morning. Common men’s support in ‘bandh’ was visible as from shops to Banks all were closed on Tuesday. The strike will be continued till tomorrow as a medium to protest against claimed ‘Anti-people’ policy of the Modi Govt. From State Govt side, securities were beefed up even though attack upon CPI-M activists were already informed till 1 pm from Teliamura. Vehicle service was badly halted, even though BMS member auto drivers stayed in motorstand for public service since the morning, but commoners didn’t travel, whereas personal vehicles were maximum used by officer goers as BJP led State Govt has strictly warned the Govt employees if they skip offices strict action will be taken against them. BJP, which formed a Govt just 10 months back in Tripura is once again seen being suffered from lack of public sympathy and support led the leaders and activists to hold a protest against strike in the capital city Agartala. BJP also organized a ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in Agartala to boast PM Modi’s cleanliness drive. Footages from allover Tripura Sonamura, Teliamura, Sabroom, Panisagar, Mandai and as well as in Agartala have been viral across social media and public's silent support in strike has been visible.

Tripura regional parties including BJP’s ally IPFT also added 11 hours strike today in Tripura and other Northeast state after another sensitive issue was raised by Modi Govt to pass the Citizenship Bill (Amendment) 2016, welcoming all Hindus who illegally entered India after 1971 will be given citizenship.

ADC areas equally affected by strike and IPFT (Tipraha) through a press conference has supported CPI-M backed trade union called 2-days-long strike.

Attempts are going on by ruling BJP to halt the strike movement against Modi Govt, but so far no success.

In Tripura’s history first time the biggest hypermarket Big Bazar in Agartala was also closed amid threats were allegedly given by BJP General Secretary Pratima Bhowmik.

Ten trade unions who have jointly called for the nationwide general strike are INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC, LPF and SEWA. The trade unions have support of almost all major independent federations of central employees, state employees and the employees of banks, insurance, telecom, and other service sectors representing the workers and employees of all the industries and services including transport services, both in organised and unorganised sectors.

The strike was the second blow for BJP after another strike on September 10, 2018 remained successful called by CITU.

Striker-parties also have called for peaceful democratic movement during two days long strike and urged for tranquility and stable law and order.
