Education Dept served with show-cause notice by Finance Dept for recruiting teachers, asked for ‘pause’

AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): Tensions have erupted among TET Qualified, B.Ed ongoing teaching job aspirants in Tripura as Finance dept in a notification signed by Chief Secretary L K Gupta has warned all depts to make a pause in the recruitment process as “Tripura has highest level of literacy rate”. Education dept headed by Minister Ratanlal Nath was also served a notice for the ongoing yearly recruitment asking cause behind so many recruitments in past few months, which is causing huge expenditure for the Finance Dept. At the same time, other departments have also given an ultimatum not to recruit any more employee without Finance Dept’s permission or action will be taken. Tripura yearly has two annual TET exams and direct recruitment process aimed to mitigate the ongoing teachers crisis. Right now, Tripura not only tops in unemployment rate but the current percentage of unemployed youths is 32.2%, breaking the national record.

Now, when state govt is striving to recruit 10323 teachers and teaching job aspirants with one time relaxation, Finance Dept’s order has generated tension over 7,000 B.Ed qualifiers / undergoing students.

Earlier BJP Govt promised to give 50,000 jobs in the first year and will set big industries but with this unwanted strike on employment, it has been fueling huge frustration and resentments.

Finance Dept in notification No.F 9 (2) FIN (G)/ 2017/ 711 dated December 17, 2018 said that Tripura having the “highest numbers of Govt employees” and there is no need of any more Govt employee unless the posts are vacated by surrender or retirement.

The order said, “Tripura has the highest level of Govt employment in the country. 

The level of employment is double in Tripura in compare to the states like Meghalaya. Needless to say, there is need to be extremely prudent in the matter of further recruitments”. 

The notification further says, “Creation of posts will be strictly depend of availability with budgetary resources with Department concerned. Each dept has a number of posts created in the past, which are vacant and no longer required. Hence whenever a department submits a proposal of post creation it should be accompanied with surrender/ abolition of posts with equivalent financial  implications”. In the order it was also mentioned if rules are not followed, then dire consequences will be seen and already Education Dept was issued with a fresh notice for show-cause.
