AGARTALA, September 19 (TIWN): An awareness workshop has held here today at the Rabindra Satabarsiki Bhawan, on the ways and measures to be adopted during incidences of natural calamities and other mass disasters. The school children sensitization programme, held at the initiative of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Jorhat office of North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in association with Tripura Disaster Management Authority (TDMA), was inaugurated by health and PWD minister Badal Choudhury.
In his address he said that as Tripura is an earth quake prone area, government is keeping every possible means ready for thwarting any of the unwanted exigencies at any odd hour of time.
“Apart from providing training for performing relief operations during the natural catastrophes, we are preparing natural calamity combating committee ranging from state level to village level” , informed minister Badal Choudhury. A film on Earthquake and their impact by representatives of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was also shown. Furthermore, number of precautionary measures like fire safety, search and rescue, first aid were demonstrated by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as well as a presentation involving science on earthquake by Dr. R. Duarah (Chief Scientist of NEIST).Health Minister Badal Choudhury unveiled a book on disaster management while AMC Mayor DR. Prafullajit Sinha released a poster on earthquake safety tips. Various equipments and articles, used at the times natural calamities, were displayed today. DM (West) Abhishek Singh gave the vote of thanks at the end of the earthquake scenario development and awareness programme, sponsored by NDMA.
